Passed away peacefully surrounded by family on July 3, 2024, at Alexandra & Marine General Hospital in his 92nd year.
He was the loving husband to Cheryl (Toll) for 55 years and the devoted dad to Michelle (Ron) McNichol and Scott (Kim) Cronin.
He was the grandpa of Lauren (Chad) St. Onge, Matt McNichol, MacKenzie McNichol and Aubrey Cronin and Great grandpa to Nova St. Onge.
He is survived by sister Margaret LeSouder and sister-in-law Josephine Landon, Vaughn and Marlene Toll, Kerry Toll and Greer Black and Avon Corneil.
Tom was predeceased by his parents Thomas & Gertie (Miller) Cronin, sisters Madeline (Nelson) Meyer, Marie (Jerry Heffron) (Wilmer Glousher), and brothers Jim (Florence) Cronin, Lorne Cronin, Henry Cronin and brother-in-law Ed LeSouder. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Tom was always ready to listen to a story or catch up on your news with visitors. He was an empathic listener and was ready to talk to anyone. He was very social and enjoyed connecting with people. His first passion was for his family. He was in love with his wife Cheryl and never let her forget it. He loved his kids and taught them a strong work ethic by his own example. He adored his grandkids and enjoyed spending time with them. Tom took great pride in his home and his amazing lawn, even mowing up until he turned 90. He loved his community and was a longtime member of the Blyth Lions Club as well as Reeve and councillor for the Village of Blyth. While a member of the Huron County Council he was named the Chairman of the Roads Committee. Tom started out working in retail and eventually opened the first Home Hardware store in Blyth in the 1960’s. After that he went on to own a Backhoe and Trenching company, was general manager of Radford Auto Parts and finished out his career as a jack-of-all-trades at the Huron Bay Co-op in Auburn. Tom loved to fix it, build it, or renovate it. He was mechanically minded and a creative problem solver.
Friends and family are invited for visitation on Saturday, July 6 from 12-2p.m. at Blyth United Church with the funeral service to follow at 2:30 p.m.
A private, family interment at Blyth Union Cemetery will take place at a later date.
