Helen Elliott

Helen M. (Currie) Elliott of Brussels passed away peacefully with her family by her side at Sumac Lodge, Sarnia on Sunday, November 6th, 2005. Helen was in her 86th year. Born in Baden on June 17th, 1920, Helen was the daughter of Percy and Laura Currie. She was raised in Ethel, where she attended Listowel High School and went on to graduate as a Registered Nurse from Hamilton General Hospital. She then completed a post-graduate obstetrical course at the University of Toronto. In 1946, Helen married George O. Elliott, settling in Brussels and raising four children. She worked at Wingham & District Hospital in the obstetrical unit from 1964 to 1984. A long time member of Melville Presbyterian Church, she was very active in the Women�s Guild and was proud to be a honourary member of the Women�s Missionary Society. Helen was the beloved wife of the late George O. Elliott (1984) and will sadly missed by her children Doug Elliott and his wife Dianne of Sydney, Australia, Joan Elliott of Thornhill, John Elliott and his wife Deb of Sarnia and Barbara Elliott of London. Also loved by her grandsons Dan, Jeff, and Tom. Predeceased by her daughter Mary, brother Robert and parents Percy and Laura Currie. Friends were received by the family from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM Friday at the Schimanski Family Funeral Home, where the funeral was conducted on Saturday, November 12th at 2:00 PM with Rev. Cathrine Campbell officiating. A solo by Janna Dodds of Many Mansions was performed as a tribute to Helen. Interment in Brussels Cemetery. Pallbearers were grandsons Jeff Elliott, Dan Elliott, and Tom Elliott along with friends Matt Richardson, Fred Lewis and Jeff Cardiff. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations were made to Melville Presbyterian Church or to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
