Harvey Kitchen

It is with much sadness that the family of Harvey announces his passing at Wingham & District Hospital, on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at the age of 84 years.

Beloved husband of Elinor Yvonne (nee Gollinger) for 51 years.

Loving father of Paul Kitchen & Divine (nee Cruz) of Slave Lake Alberta and Jeff Kitchen & Gina Crabtree of Goderich.

Papa to Trent Kitchen & Madison (nee Chamney) of Listowel, Jacob Koetsier of Holmesville, Amber and Sibella Kitchen of Goderich, Liam and Sofia Kitchen of Slave Lake, Alberta.

Great grandpa to Stevie and Emersyn Chamney, Wren, and Drew Kitchen of Listowel.

Also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends.

Predeceased by his parents, Freeman Kitchen & Alice Pearl Miller (nee Ward), one brother in infancy, sister Jean & Jim Stevens.

Harvey was born on the family farm in Trowbridge on October 23rd, 1939. At the age of 9, due to his father’s illness, they sold the farm and moved to the Village of Brussels where his mother continued to ‘Farm’ by raising laying hens and milking two Jersey cows. Harvey experienced the joy of working with animals and continued a small animal husbandry with his goats, sheep, chickens, pigs, and rabbits. He helped out at the Brussels Feed Mill, Lavis Contracting Co., Walton Landfill Site, and many farmers in the area with their harvest. These were great opportunities for him to display his witty humour and friendly smile. While out on his frequent road runs, there was always a wave, a smile and a nod of the head greeting to all oncoming drivers, whether they were known or complete strangers.

Family and friends are invited to Riverside Funeral Home Brussels Chapel (401 Albert St. Brussels) for visitation on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 from 5-8 pm. Funeral Service will take place at on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at 11 am at Brussels Mennonite Fellowship with visitation 1 hour prior to service.

Interment at Elma Centre Cemetery.
